5 signs your home has a hidden termite problem
Termites cause more damage to homes than fire and floods combined in many regions, and the worst part is that they do it silently. By the time most homeowners notice, significant damage has often already been done. Here are the early signs every Pune homeowner should watch for.
1. Hollow-sounding wood
Termites eat wood from the inside out, leaving a thin outer layer. Tap on door frames, skirting and wooden furniture — if it sounds hollow or papery, it is worth getting it checked.
2. Mud tubes
Subterranean termites build pencil-width mud tubes along walls and foundations to travel between their nest and a food source. These are one of the clearest signs of an active infestation.
3. Discarded wings
After swarming, termites shed their wings. Finding small piles of identical wings near windowsills or light sources often signals a nearby colony.
4. Tight-fitting doors and windows
As termites tunnel through frames, the moisture and damage can cause doors and windows to warp and stick.
5. Frass (termite droppings)
Drywood termites push their droppings out of small holes, leaving small mounds of what looks like fine sawdust or coffee grounds.
